Activities
Cardiac hemodynamic and cardiovascular intervention procedures at Policlinico di Monza are carried out in three special rooms equipped with advanced-technology angiographic imaging systems (INNOVA). All diagnostic and interventional procedures are regularly performed both on arteries and minor vessels. Other departments, such as Cardiology, Heart Surgery and Vascular Surgery cooperate on a daily basis. Doctors and nurses are available 24 hours a day and guarantee immediate treatment in the event of heart-related emergencies for those patients who live in the nearby area. The diseases we treat include:
- Coronary artery disease. Thanks to the technological progress made the last few years, it is now possible to treat all types of CAD. Advanced diagnostic procedures like Intravascular Ultrasound, enable physicians to determine the amount of plaque built up in the coronary artery and the amount of blood that flows to the heart. These new procedures have given a significant contribution to the improvement of all other procedures.
- Peripheral Artery Occlusive disease (PAOD), in particular acute Limb Ischemia and carotid and renal artery stenosis, are now detected and diagnosed with 3D digital subtraction angiography which gives the patient less exposure to ionizing radiation and smaller quantities of the contrast medium as well.
- Percutaneous Thoracic and Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair procedures are carried out in cooperation with the Department of Vascular Surgery to provide the patient with better care and results.
- The implantation of closure devices in patients with atrial septal defect or patent foramen ovale.
- Percutaneous Aortic Valve Replacement is performed in patients with high-risk, severe aortic stenosis who are not candidates for traditional open-chest surgery. This procedure is extremely effective and less risky.
Scientific research in the Department of Hemodynamics is currently focusing on the following activities:
- The study on the use of new anti-thrombotic drugs in Acute Coronary Syndrome
- The study on the impact of endovascular and coronary therapies on elderly patients.
- The study on the protective effect of statine treatment on patients who underwent angioplasty.
- The study on non-invasive assessment of Aortic Stiffness.
- The study on the use of intravascular ultrasound in Chronic Cerebrospinal Venous Insufficiency (CC
